I just would not give up my dream of painting authentically. Though challenged as a single working mother, I would practice drawing at night, praying to see accurately, and taking art classes whenever I could. But I would not give up my dream; though initially my paintings were dark. I know now, that it was necessary for me to heal myself through my painting before I could paint the beautiful, the good, the true. Finally I got to live out my dream, as a Resident Artist painting on top of a mountain where everywhere I looked was beautiful.
Previously, I had managed to obtain a Bachelors of Fine Art with credits towards a Masters at the Instituto de Yende in Mexico. I am a retired art teacher who used the elements of art and principles of design to facilitate critical thinking skills in secondary education students. I have also served as an Artist in Residence during the Centennial Celebration in Oklahoma.
I have been committed to painting the natural environment and the oftentimes-unnatural relationship between the earth and her people. In an effort to better understand that imbalance, I have also painted people in relationships with themselves and others. My purpose was to bring some clarity in these muddled times.
I apply a series of oil glazes that reflect how I see the interactions between the material and spiritual realms of life, as I believe it is essential to move beyond the anger and to release the fear. Perhaps, I can also bring hope to others who want encouragement to live out their dreams.
